Your Home Fitness Without Expensive Exercise Equipment
Home fitness doesn't have to include expensive exercise equipment. Depending on your goals, level of fitness, available space, and budget you can either invest in a complete home training center, purchase the bare minimum, or simply use a body weight workout that requires nothing at all.How Fit Are you Right Now?If you haven't trained in a while or have never trained at all you're probably not going to need much home fitness exercise equipment. First off, are you going to stick to it? Because there's no sense in spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on something you're only going to use for a couple of months or weeks, just to have it lying around and constantly reminding you of all the broken promises you made to yourself. Keep it simple in the beginning. For example, purchase a workout DvD like
P90x
or have a look online; there's plenty of free stuff on Utube. Once you become a little more comfortable with training and have made the decision to stick with it, then you can begin to upgrade and invest more money. The longer you've been training the more options you have. If you've decided it's time to invest a little more money and put away the two pound dumbbells you'll want to look at a set-up that has longevity because you don't want have to change or add to your setup every few months, so choose carefully. On the other hand, if you've got the space and the budget for a complete gym and a row of dumbbells and that's what you want then knock yourself out. Do You Have Enough Room?
How much of your space are you willing to sacrifice? The amount of room you have is going to be a huge factor in what you choose to include in your home fitness center. Exercise equipment can come in all shapes and sizes. If space is limited go with accessories that have more than a single function and are adjustable. Kettle bells, for example, if used correctly can strengthen and tone the entire body and they take up the same amount of space as a bowling ball. Another great accessory is called Power Blocks. Power Blocks are adjustable dumbbells where the weight can be increased and decreased so there's no need for a closet or garage full of dumbbells that you've out grown. This little unit can be stored under the bed or in a closet. As I mentioned before, the kettle bell can work the entire body and there's an adjustable Power Block version of the kettle bell as well so these two accessories alone can last you a lifetime. TRX straps are great. All you need is a door and you're all set. A skipping rope should also be included in your set-up because it's a great way to warm up, it can be thrown into a circuit training program, and it's one of the best ways to get your body burning fat while improving your
cardiovascular fitness
. Two more accessories that aren't essential to your home fitness center but would be nice to have are the Swiss ball and the medicine ball. Now again, depending on your storage space the Swiss ball might be the most awkward to store but it's extremely versatile. What's Your Goal? For example, if your goal is to completely revamp your body and focus on all
5 components of physical fitness
then you'll eventually need invest some money on your set-up, but remember: you can start slowly and piece by piece . If you're just maintaining what you have between serious workouts at your local gym,
body weight exercises
might do the job for you. Building a home fitness center doesn't have to be complicated and neither does the exercise equipment you decide to include in your set-up, so put some thought into what you choose and you won't have to break the bank.
