Need Info On Physical Fitness? How About Us
Hi, my name is Kenny. I'm a certified personal trainer and owner of
Leriken Functional Fitness
, located in the heart of beautiful downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Aside from boxing, kickboxing, and fitness classes we also teach Senshido, a world renowned self-defense system used by civilians, law enforcement officers, and members of special forces such as the SAS in Britain.
I've been involved in sports training and physical fitness for about thirty years, starting with team sports at an early age. I was captain of my hockey team by the age of 14 as well as a gold medal winner in several categories in track and field. Through it all I remained true to an early and ongoing passion: boxing. Over the years I undertook formal training, developed my technique, studied weight training and continued researching new developments in health, fitness, and sports training. All of this has led me on a journey to discover the best training methods, develop the most efficient training regimes, and to ask questions and find the answers about maintaining good health and a good level of physical fitness.
(What is fitness?)
At my training center I've developed workouts using body weight conditioning, circuit training, medicine balls, stability balls, Swiss balls, ropes, and anything else I find interesting...but no iron. I've lifted a lot of weights in my day but could never get my body to look how I wanted it too look, or feel as fit as I wanted it to until I started circuit training and using body weight exercises. Also, I was often frustrated that I had to leave my weight room behind when travelling or when swamped with other responsibilities. One day I felt so frustrated about not getting to the gym on time AGAIN that I decided to ditch it altogether for a while and see if I could stay fit without it. To my absolute surprise I not only maintained my level of fitness but actually INCREASED it, and I finally had the body I wanted to see when I looked in the mirror. It might sound vain, but I grew up loving the old-time boxers and how the definition in their muscles never seemed to interfere with their agility or their ability to magically slip out of range of an incoming punch. This impression ignited my passion to find worthy alternatives to working out only in a weight room, and to pursue effective methods of training that would allow me to be autonomous. My training, and my classes, have always relied on unorthodox methods, but I no longer view this type of training as a supplement to weight training. It's become the heart and soul of my training instead, and it set me on an inexhaustible path of discovery that I've had the pleasure of sharing first with my clientele, and now with you. Like me, my clients appreciate the fact that there is always a new exercise or combination to try, and it's been my pleasure to watch some of my clients do a complete 180 in their attitude to working out. Over the many years of working out with different people, from all walks of life, I'm always surprised and happy about how much people really come to appreciate increasing their level of fitness. I guess I sometimes take it for granted because maintaining good health has been a way of life for me for so long. When clients tell me how this training has changed their lives it always reminds me, "Yeah, this is why I do it." And it always encourages me to continue to do what I do, which is to spread the word of how important exercise is to good overall health. There are a lot of things we can't control in our lives but I believe that our health doesn't always have to be one of them. Train hard, train safe.
